Setting and retaining devices for controlling- apparatus.-In differential gearing for traction engines, motor-vehicles, &c., a sleeve l extending from the driving-member is clutched when required to one of the driven axle members n by a clutch j, j<1>, which is pulled into engagement by a spring h and is held out or disengaged by a hand-lever d having a key o adapted to engage a notch in a quadrant b. The quadrant is pivoted at c, and is pressed upwards by a spring surrounding a pin a. Pressure on the button on the pin depresses the sector b, and thus releases the hand-lever, the clutch being then engaged by the spring h.
