Control Of Throttle Valves Provided In The Intake System Or In The Exhaust System
(AREA)
Abstract
14,215. Argyll Motors, Ltd., and Coats, A. June 20. Gas or explosive-vapour engines, carburetting in. A carburettor using petrol, paraffin, or the like is combined with a throttle-valve in which the movement of a single lever allows the engine to run firstly on pure air, secondly on automatically-controlled auxiliary air, and thirdly on hand-controlled auxiliary air. The carburettor, consisting of the float chamber B and fuel nozzle C, is connected to the throttle-valve portion by a pipe A. The throttling device consists of a sleeve D with a packing-ring D' sliding in a barrel E and carrying at its upper end an auxiliary air valve G. The sleeve is perforated at d<1>, has an annular recess d, and its lower end H is a perforated cone. When the sleeve is in its lowest position, the supply of mixture to the pipes F is cut off and pure air enters by the holes f, e'. On the sleeve being raised by the bell-crank lever D<3> and link D<2>, the pure air is cut off, and the mixture admitted, and auxiliary air enters by the valve G. When the sleeve is raised farther, air enters in addition through the openings d'.
