Rail joints; chairs.-Sole-plates for tramway and other rail joints are secured to the rails by the bolts g and the clips or clamps j which engage the rail flanges and the inclined surfaces d under the sole-plates. The bolts g lie in recesses f in the top of the plate, and their nuts are secured by cottars p or locknuts. The underside of the plate is formed as a box girder with loops h and flanges or with a vertical perforated web, the openings thus left in either case being packed with concrete, which forms keys or bonds to anchor the rail and to prevent creep.
