Abstract

8110. Doyle, J., and Kimball, G. H. April 7. Sleepers; rails, securing to sleepers.-Cement or concrete blocks B are moulded round the ends of flanged bars A. Rivets and distance thimbles D hold the bars apart, and the space between them may also be filled with cement. The rails rest on wooden blocks F, which are placed in recesses or between ribs on the cement blocks, and are secured by anchor bolts G, which may also hold the clamps over the rail flanges. If the rails are secured by spikes M, removable wooden plugs J may be let into the cement blocks below the wood, or the wooden blocks may be thick enough to hold the spikes.
