The lower flange g is flush with the bottoms of the sleepers, and its top flange f is suitably canted and may bear a plate of wood or felt on which the rails rest. The rails are secured on the ends h of the support by jaws and clamps e. The rail head and foot may be cut away on opposite sides of the ends of the rails, to make a lap joint with overlapping webs, and any form of fishplate is employed.
