28,032. Bigwood, J. Dec. 21. Rails; rails, securing to sleepers.-Consists in making railway and tramway rails in two parts, one a supporting girder, and the other the surface or rail proper. The rail proper a has a longitudinal rib i formed on its under surface which fits into a corresponding groove k in the upper surface of the supporting girder e. The position of the rail proper on the girder is such that the crushing strain acts vertically on the web of the girder. The two parts are preferably arranged so as to break joint with each other, and are bolted together in either of the ways shown. The part e is shown in the Figures as kept in place on an iron sleeper f by tongues g cut out of the sleeper and bent over the lower flanges of the girder.
