16,551. Bennett, J. F., and Moorwood, H. S. Aug. 17. Carburetting.-Oil and air are first mixed by spraying, and the mixture is passed through heated oil which is constantly replenished as the more volatile constituents evaporate. The apparatus is described in connection with a motor, but may be used for lighting &c. The suction of the motor piston acting on the piston valve s, Fig. 4, opens it, and draws air through the valve u and oil from the pipe o, q. The mixture passes down the pipe j, Fig. 1, escapes below the level of the oil in the vessel d, which is heated by the passage of the exhaust gases through the jacket c, and rising is conveyed by the pipe m to the engine a. The Provisional Specification states that the apparatus j is of the type described in Specification No. 3985, A.D. 1900, [Abridgment Class Air and gas engines]. It is supplied with oil by a cock f and sight feed h, and the tarry residue is drawn off by the cock g. The cock b<1> in the exhaust pipe is controlled by a thermostat b<2> in the form of a coiled spring.
