Abstract

3185. Mathieu, C. Feb. 8. Gas and like engines, carburetting in. Air is sucked into a gas engine through a carburetter A, and the products of combustion from the engine are carburetted in a carburetter A' for lighting and heating purposes. Both carburetters comprise a cylinder fitted with wire trays carrying absorbent filtering-material C on to which liquid hydrocarbon drops from a pipe D. The air enters by the pipe E, and after passing upwards through the absorbent material passes to the engine by the pipe F. The water jacket B communicates with the water jacket of the motor cylinder. The exhaust pipe G sur- .rounds the admission pipe F, and leads the exhaust to a three - way valve N which admits it to the atmosphere through the pipe P, or to the chamber I by the pipe O. Here it expands, and then passes through a pipe Q with a non-return valve to the carburetter A<1>, which is combined with a gas holder the bell K of which works the valve N through a rod L. The carburetted products pass out through a pressure regulator R ; some of them are used in the igniting-burner.
