Abstract

3985. Bennett, J. F., Moorwood, T. P., and Moorwood, H. S. March 1. Gas or explosivevapour engines.-Oil of high flash point is mixed with air in the apparatus shown in Fig 2, which is heated by the exhaust gases passing through its jacket b. The air is drawn down the pipe d and through perforations in the pipe e between the discs d<1>, e<1>, which may be adjusted relatively by the hand-wheel f. The air and vapour pass by a pipe g to an oil separator h, Fig. 3, the carburetted air finally passing through the pipe h<2> to the air pipe k<1>, Fig. 1, of the engine. The air and the combustible mixture are separately controlled by governors m, l. For starting, vapour is generated and forced into the cylinder by burning oil in a cup n<2> beneath a vessel n containing liquid hydrocarbon.
