Abstract

10,480. Eveno, A. A. Oct. 20, A.D. 1903, [date applied for under Patents Act, A.D. 1901]. Gas or explosivevapour engines, carburetting in. The carburetting is kept uniform at varying speeds by vaporizing the liquid combustible and admitting the vapour to the air-suction pipe through apertures the area of which bears the same proportion to that of the air pipe as the quantity of vapour in the mixture does to that of the air. For heavy oils, alcohol, &c., the combustible is admitted by a valve 15, Fig. 1, to a vaporizer 5 heated by an exhaust jacket 4, and in which the walls 8, 7, 6 of the zig-zag passage gradually become hotter from the entrance to the exit pipes 19. A small current of air enters through a valve 16 to oxidize any carbon deposit that may form. At starting, a more volatile oil is admitted to the air pipe 10 through a nozzle 17 from a reservoir at a higher level. Fig. 2 shows the principle applied to carburetters for lighter oils which are drawn by the suction in the air pipe 20 through a nozzle 22 from a tank 21 in which the liquid level is above that of the nozzle. A small quantity of air enters at 23 and with the vapour passes through the restricted orifice 24 into the air pipe.
