Gas and explosive-vapour engines.-To prevent premature ignition in four-stroke engines working with high compression, water is sucked into the air admission pipe through a spraying-valve A', while oil is sucked in through a similar valve A. The valves may be concentric. A suitable gas valve may be substituted for the oil valve. The Specification contains a statement designed to show that this method of cooling does not appreciately impair the efficiency of the engine.
