Abstract

15,546. Bormann, J. G. L. July 31. Gas and like engines.-A gas rich in oxygen is used at high pressure to support combustion in the engine, and, when the engine is working at above 75 per cent. &c. of its full load, water is automatically sprayed into the cylinder to reduce the excessive temperature, and prevent premature ignition. The engine is governed by controlling the fuel supply, it being possible to burn the smallest quantity in the oxygen, or, if it is desired to economize oxygen, both gases may be cut off and the exhaust valve held open while the speed is excessive.
