Abstract

189,302. Marsh, J. H., and Grundy, W. Oct. 14, 1921. Clearing-apparatus.-Apparatus for clearing or cleaning yarns comprises conical clearer-knives 12, 13 mounted on two parallel shafts 7, 8, which are driven by gearing 5, 6, 6a from a shaft 3. The shaft 7 is capable of longitudinal adjustment by the means shown in Fig 4. The housing 9 is threaded at 18 to receive a plug 19, which can be screwed in or out of the housing 9 by means of a slot 22, to adjust the longitudinal position of the shaft 7, and therefore of the knives 12 relative to the knives 13. The ball-bearing 21 permits the free rotation of the shaft 7, which is provided with a spring 23 to keep it in its adjusted positions. To prevent longitudinal play of the shaft 8 the bearing shown in Fig 5 may be used, and to avoid inequalities of expansion the shafts 7, 8 are made identical.
