Abstract

433,214. Supporting and mounting bearings. MILLER, F. A., and MILLER, P. S., Hitchin Road, Luton. Feb. 10, 1934, No. 4478. [Class 12 (i)] A bearing-housing d at one end of a roller b, such as the fold-roll of a paper-folding machine, is slidable axially over the roll-bearing c, so as to facilitate removal of the roller from the machine. The bearing c<1> at the other end is fixed in its housing d<1> and both housings d, d<1> have spigotal engagement g with the machineframe and are secured thereto by central or circumferentially arranged bolts k. In the Figure, sliding the housing d, reduces the overall length of the roller-assembly, so that it can be lifted clear of the machine. In a modification a gearwheel such as p is arranged on the roll-shaft outside the machine-frame, being spaced from the bearing c by a distance sleeve, passing with considerable play through a hole in the frame, so that after removal of the gear-wheel and freeing of the opposite bearing housing, the roll-shaft can be tilted to allow it to be withdrawn. Alternatively the housing d may rest in a semicircular recess in the frame.
