Abstract
188,255. Coles, G. J. Dec. 29, 1921. Couplings, automatic, convertible to non- automatic.-In an automatic coupling of the type in which each coupler head is of a substantially pyramidal form and is integral with a draw bar and has a fixed projection e adapted to enter a corresponding recess f in the opposing coupler head which is secured by a pivoted transverse latch r normally extending into the recess to engage a notch k in the projection e, a concealed spring m is provided for the latch r which bears on the tail piece p of the latch so as to be compressed when the latch is raised and ensures that the latch returns to normal position. The coupling heads are each provided with a chain s to enable the heads to be connected to an ordinary coupling hook.
