Abstract

185,712. Deschamps, J. J. Sept. 5, 1921, [Convention date]. Generating combustion products under pressure.-A turbine is supplied with combustion products exhausting from the cylinders of an internal-combustion engine unit at the time of explosion, the whole of the motive power being developed by the turbine and only sufficient gas being left in the cylinders to keep up the movement of the pistons. A pair of two-stroke engine units b are shown with the pistons a integrally connected by a reciprocating rod s which is connected to valves j leading to the turbine chamber g, to valves 4 admitting fuel, and to a piston governor m. The piston governor m controls valves l which prevent the gases passing to the turbine chamber until the correct piston speed is obtained, whereupon these valves l open and the greater part of the exploded gases passes to the chamber q, sufficient being left to drive the pistons a. A turbine governor r may regulate the fuel supply. Additional fuel may be burnt at constant pressure in the chamber g, being admitted through valves 7 controlled by the turbine governor, and in this case the piston governor also controls the fuel admission to the cylinders. Four four-stroke engine units may be used. Water may be injected into the gases for cooling.
