Abstract

125,174. Ohborg, J. F. O. Oct. 22, 1917 Motor power plant.-The exhaust from an internal-combustion engine 1 having a piston 3 is conducted through water in a chamber 7, and the resulting mixture of steam and gases is expanded beneath a piston 13 in a second cylinder 12, the piston 13 serving on its upper side to compress air for the combustion cylinder. The pistons 3, 13 may be combined as shown and drive the crank-shaft 22, which actuates through links 29, 23 a slide valve 10 controlling (a) a port 11 for admitting and exhausting the mixture operating in the second cylinder, and (b) a port 25 for the air which is compressed above the piston 13 and delivered to a chamber 27, from which it is supplied to the cylinder 1 through a valve 28 as a scavenging charge and also to a high-pressure compressor 40 for delivery to a starting air tank and to a fuel-injection nozzle. The valvegear is reversed by a lever 37. Water is introduced into the chamber 7 by means of an enlargement 52 on the rod of the slide-valve 10 which forces the water through a passage 54 and chamber 5 to the steam-generating chamber 7, which, according to the invention, surrounds the combustion cylinder 1, the steam cylinder 12, and the chamber 27.
