Abstract
182,532. Miller, A. D., and Rhody, C. P. March 30, 1921. Jacks.-In a hydraulic jack the chamber K containing the ram N is connected by pipes 20, 15 with both ends of a cylinder D reciprocated by means of connecting-rods 28 from a crank shaft 23 driven by toothed gearing 24. The cylinder is divided by a partition G into two chambers of different size, each being closed by a piston. The piston H closing the smaller chamber is fixed, whilst the other piston J is reciprocated oppositely to the cylinder by a connecting-rod 27. With this arrangement the ram with its load is stated to be in static equilibrium at any point of its travel. The device is applicable to any kind of hoisting apparatus.
