Abstract
182,443. Rochefort, F. June 28, 1921, [Convention date]. Air-pressure sprayers; nozzles for producing whirling and like sprays.-Liquid fuel for injection into the cylinders of an internal-combustion engine is supplied by the passage 4 and presses back the piston valve 2, passing to the injector by the pipe 8. Compressed air from the passage 5 is simultaneously admitted through the lift valve 3 connected to the piston valve 2 and passes to the annular passage 17 through the automatic valve 18. The fuel passes from the pipe 8 through the straight or helicoidal grooves 10, of increasing cross-sectional area formed in the non-oxidizable heating member 11, to the member 12, which has a series of peripheral orifices 14, connected together by an annular groove, and an axial orifice 15. On issuing from the orifices 14, the fuel, now in the form of vapour, is carried by the compressed air from the passage 17 through the helical passages 23. More fuel vapour from the orifice 15 and extra spraying-air trapped from the main body into the annular chamber 24 are added, and the mixture passes to the igniting and mixing device 22, provided with holes 27 for the better mixing of the fuel with the comburant. The member 11 is free to expand against the spring 29, and during the engine suction stroke air is admitted by the ball valve 19.
