Abstract

182,398. Espie, R. Dec. 7, 1921. Fluid governors; vane governors.-In a governing device for marine engines, of the type in which longitudinal thrust of the propeller shaft A, controlled by springs 12 working between a collar 13 attached to the shaft and an abutment 9, is utilized to effect governing, the propeller shaft is formed in two sections with a coupling 5. A stop 14 on the shaft engages against an abutment 7 to prevent total disengagement of the two sections. The longitudinal motion is transmitted to the engine-controlling gear by a rod 19 through a thrust plate 11 pivoted at 16 to a lever 17, which is attached to the rod and is pivoted at 18. A ball bearing 15 is used between the blocks 11, 13 to reduce friction.
