Regulating delivery by varying speed and power of motor.-The pilot valve 18 of a fluid relay actuating the throttle valve &c. of a prime mover driving a pump or compressor is connected to an intermediate point of a floating lever 28 connected at its ends to a piston 33 subject to the pressure in the discharge pipe of the driven pump &c. and to a piston 46 subject to the pressure of a pump 50 delivering fluid at a pressure proportional to the speed of the prime mover. The pivot valve is normally operated by the piston 33, the pump 50 and piston 46 acting as an emergency speed governor. The pipe 41 connected to the discharge pipe of the main pump has a restricted orifice 42 and a valve 43 between which is a connection 45 to the cylinder 31 so that the device may be used for a range of pressures in the discharge pipe while the operating pressure in the cylinder 31 is kept constant by regulating the valve 43. The pressure under the piston 46 is regulated by a regulating valve 56 and relief valve 58. A. spring 63 is held between a collar 61 on the pilot valve spindle and a collar 62 attached to, a sleeve 16 secured to the relay piston 13.
