259,183. Schmidt'sche Heissdampf- Ges. Oct. 3, 1925, [Convention date]. Addition to 231,451. Automatic gear. - Comprises a modification of the apparatus described in the parent Specification for controlling automatically and by a single handle the separate regulators of a number of steam generators working at different pressures. In the construction shown in Fig. 6 an automatic valve 26 is inserted in the pipe 25 leading from the lowpressure regulator 4, the piston 24 of this valve being controlled by a spring 23 and low-pressure steam admitted trouhgh a pipe 28 and a non-return valve 27. When the pressure in the low-pressure boiler is normal the valve 26 is held open against the spring 23, but when the pressure falls the valve partly closes and throttles the delivery of steam through the main pipe 25 until the pressure rises again. The valve 26 may also be held open, when required, as e.g. at starting and on inclines, by admitting high-pressure steam to the underside of the piston 24 through a hand-controlled valve 20 and pipe 29. The regulators 3, 4 are shown as controlled by a single handle 21, but they may be controlled by any of the means described in the parent Specification.
