Abstract
275,690. Lithgoe, J., and Richardson, D. E. April 6, 1926. Compressed-air engines.-The supply of air or like pressure-fluid to a rotary fluid-pressure motor is regulated by a valve automatically controlled by a rise in pressure of the pressure-fluid in front of the valve to cause a restriction in the fluidsupply passage. The valve is independently operated by a speed governor when a certain speed is exceeded. The pressure in front of the valve acts on an area equivalent to that of the valve spindle c<1> of a hollow cylindrical valve and lifts the valve against a spring c and so reduces the effective area of the port c<2> in the valve. The speed-governor consists of a spring-restrained loaded plunger e mounted in a member d carried on the end of the engine shaft and surrounded bv a ring e<3> which moves to an eccentric position when a certain speed is reached and acts on a lever F connected with the valve so as to move the latter angularly to effect a reduction of the area of the port c<2>. The lever F is formed with a piston f to give a dash-pot effect.
