Abstract

Reversing; regulating. -A turbine is provided with forward and reverse gearing to which it may be coupled by clutches, and the speed governing devices are connected to the reversing-gear so that the speed of the turbine is reduced to half the normal speed before either clutch is moved. The governor A controls the throttle valve B through a hunting-gear 8, 23, 24, and the running speed is determined by the position of the normally fixed pivot 24. The parts are shown in the position when the turbine is running idle. When the reversing hand-wheel 39 is turned to couple the turbine through either the forward or reverse clutch, the final movement of the hand-wheel opens a valve 33 of a hunting-gear 27, 35, 33 controlling the position of the pivot 24, and that pivot is moved into a position determining a higher running speed for the turbine. The clutches are laminated friction clutches and are controlled by a piston 44 and a hunting-gear 47, 48. When the piston 44 is moved to put in the reversing-clutch, a piston 50 is moved to the right and admits oil from the pipe 51 to the clutch. All the hunting- gears are supplied with oil under pressure from a pump 10.
