Abstract
181,736. Siemens - Schuckertwerke Ges. June 18, 1921, [Convention date]. Low-pressure metallic-vapour apparatus.-In metal-cased metallic-vapour apparatus, such as a mercury vapour rectifier, the active part of the cathode, and the hottest part of the vapour stream, are separated from the anodes and from the walls of the container by means of a wall of refractory material such as quartz, extending preferably from the cathode container. As shown, a quartz tube 7 dips into the mercury cathode 3, and projects up to or beyond the mouth of the anode casing 5, the arc being thereby caused to follow the path indicated by arrows. The tube 7 may be integral with the cathode container 2, or the container 2 may be dispensed with, and the opening of the casing 5 placed closer to the tube 7. Specification 24025/05 is referred to.
