Abstract
480,081. Maintaining vacua in electric discharge vessels. SIEMENS.SCHUCK. ERTWERKE AKT.-GES. July 5, 1937, No. 18633. Convention date, July 3, 1936. [Class 8 (i)] Vacuum is maintained in an electric discharge vessel by condensed vapour discharged intermittently down a fall tube and carrying out gas particles between the drops. Mercury vapour from an arc rectifier condenses in the chamber 14 and runs to the chamber 5. Foreign gases in this space are caught between drops as they fall down the tube 4 and are discharged into the lower chamber from which they are removed by a pump. The mercury is returned to the anode pool by the tube 9. The chamber 14 may be cooled by a separate cooling device. In a modification, this device is mounted inside the chamber 1.
