Abstract
370,472. Metallic-vapour apparatus. INTERNATIONAL GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Inc., 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A. -(Assignees of Allgemeine Electricitõts. Ges. ; 2, Friedrich Karl-Ufer, Berlin.) Dec. 9, 1930, No. 37174. Convention date, Dec. 9, 1929. [Class 39 (i).] In mercury-vapour rectifiers &c. a metallic container 1 for the cathode is carried by a lead-in insulator 7 mounted in the bottom of the vessel and by means of an insulator 10 is sealed to the vapour chamber 3 in such a manner that very little mercury can pass into the space 9 between the cathode vessel and the bottom of the container. The space 9 may be evacuated by a pipe 12 which leads to a well-cooled region 13 having a low vapour pressure. A tube 16 for collecting condensate is provided with a heater 18, the vaporized mercury being guided to a cooled surface 20 through a tube 19. The cathode vessel may be sealed to the vapour chamber by means of atmospheric pressure, the bottom plate 14 being formed as a diaphragm having a flexible rim 15
