Abstract

<PICT:0440770/III/1> <PICT:0440770/III/2> Foaming in apparatus used for the vacuum treatment or degasification of liquids, is prevented by the application thereto of an electric field. As applied to a Claissen flask, the upper part is constructed with double walls and the space therebetween evacuated. Sealed within the latter is an electrode 2 connected to one pole of a high frequency apparatus to form a vacuum electric discharge device. In a modification, the device is in the form of a tube 3, Fig. 2, extending into the liquid or the vapour space. The degasification is increased by the introduction of conductive substances into the liquid, such as pieces of aluminium foil or sheet platinum.
