Abstract

617,517. Discharge apparatus. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. April 30, 1946, No. 12988. Convention date, May 1, 1945. [Class 39 (i)] A vacuum vessel particularly adapted for use in an electric discharge tube has a glass wall constituted by two moulded cup-shaped bodies of identical construction sealed together by means of an accurately fitting edge, the bottom of each of these cup - shaped bodies comprising a.plurality of nozzles for leading-in wires, an exhausting tube or the like. Fig. 1 shows a mercury vapour rectifier in which the cups 1 and 2 are sealed together at 12 and have nozzles 3, 4 for cathode and anode leads. The cathode is surrounded by a cylindrical screen and the anodes have wire gauze screens and are separated by a solid plate which provides a further screen. Mercury is contained in the nozzle 8 sealed by the ferro-chrome cap 11 which is provided with cooling fins. Specifications 573,572 and 574,480 are referred to.
