Abstract

631,798. Photo-electric cells. RADIO ELECTRONICS, Ltd., FFENNELL, H. S. MOLYNEUX-, CHAMBERS, W. A., and TRIST & CO., Ltd., R. June 13, 1946, No. 17777. [Class 39 (i)] A photo-electric cell comprises a cup-shaped cathode 15 mounted in and spaced from an envelope 10 with its mouth facing a translucent wall 11 of the envelope and a rod-like anode 18 lying substantially on the axis of the cathode. The cathode 15 is hollow-pressed from sheet metal and provided with a light-sensitive surface and is supported by welded wires 14 fused in the pinch 13, a wire 16 extending from one of the wires 14 through a glass tube to a terminal 22 on the mounting-ring 21. The anode 18 is centrally mounted on glass projection 19 and its lead wire 20 extends if necessary through a glass tube to the terminal 23. The ring 21 secures the cell in a holder 24. Insulating wax, e.g. beeswax or saracen wax, fills the space round the lead-in wires and the evacuating tube 25.
