Abstract
323,041. Lindemann, F. A. Sept. 19, 1928. Vacuum tubes.- A photoelectric cell is arranged adjacent to an amplifying valve, but isolated therefrom so as to permit of independent evacuation, the cell and valve forming a single unit, with one lead extending directly from one of the electrodes of the cell to the control electrode of the valve, a connection being made from the control electrode to an external circuit. As shown the cell 11 containing an anode 16 in the form of a ring, and a cathode 14, for example of alkali or alkaline earth metal such as potassium, is separated by an integral partition 13 from the valve envelope 12. which contains a heatable cathode 18, a control electrode 23, and an anode 24. The cathode 14 may be sensitized by hydrogen or by covering it with a colloidal layer. The lead 17 from the anode 16 passes through the partition to the anode 24, and the cathode 14 is connected by a similar lead 15 with the control electrode 23. The cell may contain a. gas. Additional electrodes may be provided in the cell and valve. A metallic sheath 27 is formed with an aperture 28 admitting light to the cell. The device may be used in apparatus for reproducing sounds by photography, for example as described in Specification 320,070. Specifications 290.245 and 296,411 also are referred to.
