Abstract

1,099,873. Travelling wave tubes. SIEMENS A.G. April 14, 1965 [April 15, 1964], No. 15908/65. Heading H1D. An electron discharge device, e.g. a travelling wave tube, has a cathode assembly which includes a focusing electrode 12 mounted within two cupshaped screening cylinders which surround the assembly, the inner screening cylinder 1 forming a first accelerating anode and extending to surround the connecting conductors from the cathode assembly to a terminal lead - through assembly 2, adjacent to which the inner screening cylinder is conductively connected to a sealing ring member having an aperture coaxial with the axis of the inner screening cylinder in which the terminal lead - through assembly is mounted, and the outer screening cylinder 8 forming part of a second accelerating anode and being secured to the sealing ring member via a hermetically sealed ceramic tube 7 coaxially surrounding part of the inner screening cylinder. In assembly, the cathode and focusing electrode mounted upon a guide tube 13, slide within the inner screening electrode so as to position the aperture of the focusing electrode relative to the aperture in the first accelerating anode.
