Compound-lever and like apparatus; platform machines.-In a platform lever system comprising long and short levers 10, 11, Figs 1 and 2, each of the short levers is pivotally connected to a long lever by means of two relatively rotatable rings, one of which supports the nose pivots of the short lever while the other is supported from an intermediate pivot located in an aperture in the long lever. As applied to a scale for weighing loaded wagons &c. the platform 1 is hinged to bearings 8 pivotally supported upon the levers which are fulcrumed upon stands 6, the long levers being connected to a shelf-lever 47, which, in this case, is connected to automatic weighing- mechanism of the pendulum type. Within the apertures in the long levers are supported knifeedges 14, Figs. 3 and 6, carrying blocks 15 having depending arms 17, the lower ends of the arms being pivoted to blocks 19 supporting a pivot 25 which is secured to the underside of a plate 21 having posts 22 supporting a ring 23. Mounted loosely upon the ring 23 is a ring 26 formed with lugs 27, within which are pivoted blocks 28 supporting pivots 30 on the arms of the forked ends of the short levers. The bottoms of the grooves in the blocks 28 and the knife-edges 14 are arranged in the same planes. The end of one of the long levers is forked and supported upon blocks 36, Fig. 7, carried by a yoke 37 mounted loosely upon the rod 41 which is connected to the shelf-lever 47 and carries a swivelling-yoke 40 having blocks supporting the pivot 38 of the curved end of the other long lever. The shelflever is provided with an adjustable slide comprised of connected members 50, 51, Fig. 11, the upper member 50 carrying the pivot 56 which is supported in blocks carried by the levers 58. In a modification, the pivot is carried by the lower member of the slide. In another arrangement, the slide is replaced by a channel-sectioned slide open at one side.
