Compound-lever apparatus.-A weighing scale comprises a base housing, a pair of non-swinging fulcrum bearings and a pair of swinging fulcrum bearings supported within the base housing, a pair of platform levers of the first order having load pivots, one of the platform levers being fulcrumed on the non-swinging bearings, the other platform lever being fulcrumed on the swinging bearings, and a platform non-swingingly supported on the lever with non-swinging fulcrum bearings and swingingly supported on the lever with swinging fulcrum bearings. The platform 26, preferably of sheet metal, is secured to a frame 24 by screws 27 and is additionally supported by a transverse fin 29. The frame is slung by links 23 from a spider 14 which is supported at one end directly upon the knifeedges 16 of a lever 11, and is supported at the other end upon links 21 slung from a lever 12. These supports lie nearly below the corners of the platform to minimize tipping. The adjacent ends of the levers 11, 12 are each coupled to a transfer lever 36 connected to a tare beam 43 and to automatic load-balancing mechanism (not shown). The fulcrum 13 of the lever 11 is supported on a cross bar 4 secured to the base housing, and the fulcrum 35 of the transfer lever 36 is mounted on a member 34 supported partly on the base housing and partly on the cross bar 4. The member 34 is provided with three separate sets of fulcrum bearings so that transfer levers of various leverages may be fitted the resulting displacement of the zero position of the indicator being rectified by adjusting the weight of a loading box 59. The end pivot 42 of the lever 36 may be adjusted endways. The tare beam 43 is actuated by a pivot bar 54 projecting from a bowed link 53. The bowed link is coupled through a swivel 52 with the dial mechanism so that the dial may be turned to face in any desired direction.
