179,565. Wehnelt, A. May 6, 1921, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Vacuum tubes.-The oxide coating of a cathode, or an electron-emitting body adjacent to the cathode, consists of a mixture of the oxides or hydroxides of the alkaline-earth metals. The mixture may be applied as a coating, or compressed as powder in moulds and heated. Such a coating will adhere not only to platinum and iridium but also to the base metals such as nickel and tungsten. The mixture may consist of 90 parts by weight of calcium hydroxide and 5 parts by weight of barium and strontium hydroxides respectively. Sticks may be made by compress. ing and heating the powdered mixture after moistening if necessary with water, alcohol,. acids, or solutions of salts.
