Abstract

A hard material consisting of tungsten, carbon, and cobalt is made by adding a dry mixture of carbon and tungsten oxide to an aqueous solution of cobalt acetate, evaporating and heating the mixture to decompose the acetate, firing the mass in a reducing atmosphere such as hydrogen, and then pressing and sintering.
