Abstract
A soldering bit of porous metal such as carbonyl iron or carbonyl nickel which holds the solder by capillary action is made by mixing metal powder into a paste with a binding agent consisting of an organic substance such as shellac dissolved in alcohol, then moulding, and then sintering in a vacuum furnace at about 1000 DEG C. The mould may consist of ceramic material, in which case sintering is effected in the mould.
