Abstract

294,086. Diener, O. Feb. 15, 1928. Tools.-Lathe &c. tools are made of tungsten having more than 3 per cent of combined carbon. Optionally, boron up to 0.2 per cent, silicon up to 1.5 per cent, or both boron and silicon in any proportion up to a total of 1.5 per cent, may be added. The material is prepared by pouring tungsten powder with a high proportion of combined carbon prepared in known manner into refractory moulds, heating quickly to 2000‹ C. and applying a mechanical pressure of from 150 to 200 kilo-grams per square centimeter.
