Abstract

178,485. Claughton, J. Nov. 15, 1920. Purifying liquids; separating by gravity.-The components of a liquid mixture, for example oil and water, are separated in a tank comprising an inlet compartment b, wider at the top than at the bottom, and a second compartment c of varying cross-section as shown from which the lighter liquid passes over a partition a<111> to a third compartment d while the heavier liquid flows through a passage n in the partition. The lighter liquid is directed downwards in the chamber d by a baffle p and overflows into a compartment f. The heavier liquids flows through a passage q to a compartment e. The compartments are provided with draw-off or cleansing outlets. One or more removable dished sieves may be fitted at the top of the compartment b.
