Abstract
195,735. Brockway, F. G. Jan 4, 1922. Washers.-Apparatus for washing gas comprises a chamber A containing cleansing liquid and divided into compartments C, D by one or more partitions E descending into the liquid. Parallel with and close to the lower edge of each partition is an oscillating shaft J from which is suspended, so as to move integrally therewith, one or more flat-bottomed buckets or troughs H, one portion M of the bucket being perforated and the rest imperforate. The perforated portion remains continually submerged during the oscillations of the bucket, the imperforate portion trapping a portion of the gas while above the surface and carrying it below the surface, whence it escapes through the perforated portion into the liquid in the adjoining compartment. One or more additional perforated plates N may be provided in each bucket. A number of chambers A may be arranged side by side, and the operation of the buckets so timed that a continuous and uniform flow of gas from the outlet chambers to a discharge pipe is maintained. Also, a number of the chambers A may be superimposed, with the outlet pipe from one leading into the inlet compartment of the chamber next above, while different cleansing liquids may be employed in different chambers.
