Abstract
211,352. Vickers, Ltd., and McKechnie, Sir J. March 10, 1923. Separating by gravity.-A closed tank is provided with vertical partitions extending from the bottom almost to the top of the tank, so as to form a circuitous path for water introduced in admixture with oil at the middle of the tank and drawn off at the periphery. The tank A has cylindrical partitions D with perforated portions d' and cross partitions d. The mixture of oil and water is supplied to the central compartment through a pipe E and passes circuitously towards a water outlet pipe F, the oil rising and being directed by the cover B to a chamber b in which it collects and from which it is discharged through a pipe G. The chamber b may be provided with a heating coil b<1> and the annular compartments of the tank with inclined baffles d<5>. A valve f serves to regulate the rate of discharge of the water and consequently of the oil. The arrangement is intended especially for the recovery of oil on board ship. Apparatus is described comprising a barge body fitted with two tanks A through which the water is successively passed.
