238,007. De Laval Chadburn Co., Ltd., (Aktiebolaget Separator). May 9, 1924. Separating by gravity.-A gravity settling tank has its side walls inclined and is divided into a distributing chamber 4, a separating chamber 5, and an outlet chamber 6 by transverse plates 2, 3. The separating chamber contains a number of spaced plates 9 inclined parallel to the side walls of the casing, these plates extending the full length of the chamber and nearly to the top thereof. The lighter liquid rises and is drawn off from the separating chamber by outlets 8, while the heavier liquid passes to the chamber 6. The distances between the plates 9 may be adjustable, and the partition walls 2 and 3 may be vertically adjustable. Scrapers or similar cleaning devices for the plates may be provided, and the tank may be fitted with a heating device to reduce the viscosity of the liquids treated.
