Cigarette-making machines. - The circular rotating knives of a continuous-rod machine are made adjustable by a hand-wheel and gearing in order to sever the rod accurately at any desired point. A shaft b driven by bevel gearing e engages by means of a helical thread a sleeve g which is keyed at h to a shaft a driving the cutters, and rotates freely within ball bearings k and a collar i carried by a bracket l. The rotation of a screw m connected to the adjusting- wheel o through pinions p, q effects the adjustment of the bracket l, the shaft a and hence the cutters geared thereto, while the shafts are rotating.
