652,561. Cigarette-making machines. DANK, H. Sept. 28, 1948, No. 25246. Convention date, July 12, 1947. [Class 130] In a continuousrod machine, a rotary cutting knife 6 rotates about an axis parallel to the direction of travel of the rod and is slightly inclined to the axis of rotation, and the end of the cigarette-rod guide tube 12 is bevelled to make point contact and act as ledger plate to the rotating blade. The knife is rotated in a rotating carrier 10 by engagement of a gear 7 with a fixed sun gear 11, and the speed is such that the tube 12 can remain stationary. The tube which is insulated in its carrier 15 is connected in electric circuit with a lamp 14 which indicates when the knife and tube touch one another. When this is not so the knife requires adjustment which may be effected automatically.
