Abstract

1387419 Continuous-rod cut-off ledger MOLINS Ltd 13 Oct 1972 [14 Oct 1971] 47949/71 Heading A2C The ledger comprises a fixed member 2, 4 of approximately semi-circular cross-section which cooperates with a rotary member 8 to form a tube in which the continuous rod is supported during cutting, the member 8 having at least one guide part 10 formed with a slot 10A into which the cut-off knife 12 enters during the final stage of each cut, the position and timing of the member 8 being so arranged that the slot 10A is substantially at right angles to the axis of the rod 6 just as the cut is being completed. In the embodiment described, the knife 12 is situated behind the rod, the axis of rotation of the rotary member 8 is inclined to the horizontal, and the rod-supporting surface (10B) of the member 8 is substantially symmetrical about a plane normal to the axis of rotation. The device is adjustable to accommodate different lengths of cut.
