Abstract

1,109,178. Cigarette making machines. MOLINS ORGANISATION Ltd. and D. W. MOLINS. 22 Sept., 1965 [23 Sept., 1964], No. 38878/64. Heading A2C. Lengths of connector strip L for joining cigarette lengths to filter tips are separated from a continuous web W along lines of weakening 4 by a pair of relatively movable blade elements 11 and 17. The blades 11 are mounted for rotation on a disc 9 and their peripheral speed is equal to the speed of travel of the web W. The blades 17 are mounted on the disc 9 for pivotal movement about axis 13 and are accelerated by a fix cam 15 at the point where they contact the web so as to move at the same speed as the drum 1. The blade 11 contacts the web at or immediately behind the line of weakening and the blade 17 contacts the web in advance of the line of weakening so that a strip L is separated for subsequent rolling around a cigarette group 3. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown) the blades are mounted for rotation with two discs of different diameters so that the peripheral speeds of the blades are equal to that of the web and that of the drum 1 respectively.
