Abstract
1336984 Continuous-rod cutting-guide MOLINS MACHINE CO Ltd 18 Dec 1970 [19 Dec 1969] 61876/69 Heading A2C A ledger for the cut-off of a continuous-rod making-machine comprises a wheel 2 carrying a number of rod-supporting members 4 each of which is pivoted by a pin 22 to the wheel 2 and is controlled as to its position relative to the wheel 2 by a cam 28 while the support member 4 is supporting the rod 32. Each support member 4 carries a cradle piece 34, slotted at 36 to allow passage of the cutting blade (not shown), and a roller 26 that extends through an opening 25 in the wheel 2 to engage the cam surface 28. The rollers 26 are urged against the cam surface 28 by centrifugal force when the wheel 2 is rotating at full speed, and by means of spring loaded fingers 30 at slow speeds. To allow for variation in the length of the cigarettes cut off means are provided, to adjust the distance of the cradle pieces 34 from the axis of rotation, to adjust the height of the axis of the wheel 2, and for replacing the cam 28 with another of different profile. The wheel 2 may be replaced by another wheel carrying, for example, four, five or six rod supports 4 to obtain shorter cut lengths than obtainable by the above adjustments alone. The wheel 2 may carry a further wheel (not shown), suitably cut away in the region of each support member 4, to support the cigarette rod between cuts.
