Bases, boxes, and cases.-In a composite system for wiring, employing conduit conductors, lead sheathed conductors and cab tyre sheathed conductors, according to their suitability to a given part of the system, fittings such as switch boxes have cable openings with an external plane facing provided with means for attaching interchangeable glands adapted to make a joint with a sheathed cable or to take the end of a length of conduit. A water-tight joint with sheathed cable is obtained by means of a split coned washer of plastic material such as lead, type-metal or soft brass which is gripped by the conical bore of the gland. Fig. 2 shows the gland employed with sheathed cable, Fig. 4 the same gland used with conduit, and Fig. 5 a gland for screwed conduits. Glands for slip-socket conduits may have a uniform plain bore.
