Abstract

9964. Scholes, G. H. July 8. Couplings. - A waterproof and electricallycontinuous joint between the lead sheathing b of a cable and the gland c of a junction-box is formed by splaying-out the sheathing and forcing it over the conical-ended gland until it is splayed out to the full size of the screwed part of the gland, so that when the sleeve d is screwed on the gland, it forms a thread on the lead sheathing. The sleeve has an internally coned' portion d<1> corresponding to the coned part of the gland, and, when the sleeve is screwed up, the sheathing is clamped between the two coned portions, as shown. The sleeve may be arranged to engage with the gland before forming a thread on the sheathing, the inward movement of the sleeve serving to carry the sheathing farther up the conical part of the gland, where finally a screw-thread is formed on it by the sleeve.
