Abstract

176,546. Weyman, J. E. Dec. 20, 1920. Gaseous-fuel furnaces.-In a furnace for burning blast-furnace, coke-oven, producer, and like gases, the air-supply regulator is separate from the atmospheric burner and is controlled by a governor operated by the gas pressure but arranged outside the passage of gas to the burner. In one form, the internal and external air supplies pass through a bent tube C, Fig. 2, divided by a partition K to annular chambers M<1>, M<2> surrounding the combustion chamber and thence respectively through a box casting N and a port R to the mixing-chamber O of the burner and to the combustion chamber Q. The entrance to the bent tube C is fitted with a hit-and-miss disc regulator J" connected to a gas-actuated governor as described in Specification 122,890, [Class 75 (i), Burners &c.]. The proportion of the external air supply to the internal air supply is regulated by means of an auxiliary hit-and-miss regulator controlling the external air supply apertures in the main regulator and secured in position by a bolt engaging a slot. In a modification in which the air supply is heated by the waste flue gases or by a heater separate from the combustion chamber, the air supply is admitted to the bent tube C through an elbow tube C', and the main air-regulating disc Y and the auxiliary regulating-disc Y<1> are carried respectively by a spindle S and a sleeve T thereon, a quadrant on the sleeve T being adjustably connected to the operating-arm X on the spindle by a thumb-screw and a slot. The air-regulating discs may be mounted on ball bearings. Separate regulators may be employed for the internal and external air supplies. The tube C may be rectangular with shutters instead of rotary discs. Specification 136,774 also is referred to.
